History - Video Park

Our History

The Video Park Group has been a significant contributor to the Tamil film industry for more than four decades, successfully evolving alongside the rapid transformation of media technology—from the era of physical video distribution to modern digital streaming platforms. The organization is a three-generation driven enterprise, deeply rooted in the film distribution ecosystem and committed to delivering high-quality content to audiences worldwide.

Early Foundations

The journey began in the 1980s with the establishment of Subala Videos, founded by AN. Subbiah. The company specialized in video copyright distribution of Tamil films, marking one of the earliest organized efforts to distribute film content through the home video market.

Establishment of Video Park

In the mid-1980s, SP. Nagappan founded Video Park, which quickly became a recognized name in the industry. During the rise of home entertainment, Video Park played a crucial role in procuring and distributing VCD and DVD copyrights for films and audio content, helping popularize Tamil cinema through physical media distribution.

Towards the late 1980s and early 1990s, the group launched Time Video, a subsidiary of Video Park. This company focused on supplying video blanks, audio blanks, and related media distribution services.

Time Video soon became one of the largest video marketing and distribution companies in Chennai, catering to many of the major copyright holders and content distributors in the Tamil film industry for Chennai City Area Distribution.

Diversification into Media Services
Satellite Rights Syndication

For over a decade, the company has maintained a strong position in the industry by supplying films to leading satellite channels such as Sun TV, Vijay TV, Jaya TV, Doordarshan (DD) & Other major regional broadcasters.

This transition enabled Video Park to significantly expand the reach of Tamil cinema across millions of television viewers.

Pioneer in Digital Content Distribution

Video Park was also among the early pioneers in internet-based film distribution. The company supplied one of the largest catalogues of Tamil films for digital streaming to leading platforms such as ABCL (Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd.) & BigFlix (Reliance Group of Companies)

This move marked an important milestone for Video Park Group in adapting traditional film libraries to the emerging digital media ecosystem.

In 2020, the group expanded its media footprint by launching Studio Plus Entertainment, an audio label and content distribution company founded by Kannappan Nagappan.
